Medical Visa

General Information on Medical Visa

The Medical Visa (MED-1) is issued to foreign nationals traveling to India exclusively for the purpose of seeking medical treatment at recognized and specialized hospitals or healthcare centers in India. This visa supports the patient’s access to quality medical care in India and also allows close relatives to accompany them under a Medical Attendant Visa (MED-X).

All applicants must submit supporting medical documentation, and the visa will be issued after a review of the case, including a possible in-person interview.

Important:
The visa validity begins from the date of issue, not from the travel date, and must only be used for medical purposes. Misuse of the visa category can lead to rejection, cancellation, or deportation.

Who Can Apply?
You may apply for a Medical Visa if:

  1. You are seeking specialized medical treatment in India.
  2. You have a valid invitation or confirmation letter from a recognized Indian hospital or treatment center.
  3. You can provide proof of diagnosis and a recommendation from your local doctor.
  4. You may apply for a Medical Attendant Visa if:
You are a close relative/friend accompanying the patient.
You have a declaration letter confirming your travel alongside the patient.
You submit the required supporting documents from the treating hospital in India.
  • Minor children traveling with a parent on a Medical Visa may be issued an Entry (X) Visa, valid for the same duration as the patient’s visa.
