General Information on Conference Visa
A Conference Visa is granted to foreign nationals invited to attend official conferences, seminars, or workshops organized by the Government of India, its departments, public sector undertakings, and recognized institutions.
For conferences organized by private institutions, prior approval from relevant authorities in India is mandatory.
Important:
Applicants must strictly attend the event as per the declared purpose. Any deviation may lead to visa cancellation, legal action, or deportation. An in-person interview at the Embassy may be required as part of the application process.
Who Can Apply for a Conference Visa?
The Conference Visa is applicable to:
- Individuals invited to attend government-approved conferences/seminars
- Foreign experts, academics, and researchers invited by Indian institutions
- Participants of events approved by Indian ministries or universities
- Individuals invited by private organizations, provided the event has official clearance from the Indian government
Note:
Applicants attending business meetings or corporate board discussions should apply for a Business Visa, not a Conference Visa.
Key Guidelines:
- Conference Visa validity is granted at the discretion of the Embassy, usually for the duration of the event plus travel time.
- The visa is valid from the date of issue, not the travel date mentioned on the application.
- A valid passport (minimum 6 months validity) with at least 3 blank pages is required.
- Biometrics (fingerprints & photo) are required at the time of submission.
- Do not make travel arrangements until the visa is issued.
