General Information on Project Visa

The Project Visa is specifically issued to foreign nationals coming to India for execution of projects in the power, steel, infrastructure, or other approved sectors. This visa facilitates foreign specialists, skilled workers, and professionals engaged in execution, installation, or commissioning of projects awarded to foreign companies by Indian entities.

Applications must be supported by official documentation from the Indian company and the foreign employer, and may require an in-person interview at the Indian Embassy or Consulate.

Who Can Apply for a Project Visa?

This visa is applicable to:

  • Foreign nationals who are employees of a foreign company executing a project in India.
  • Experts, engineers, technicians, and skilled workers involved in:
    • Power or steel plant projects
    • Infrastructure development
    • Large-scale industrial installations
  • Individuals required in on-site supervision, installation, and commissioning under contractual obligations.

Note:
Applicants must not be engaged in routine business activities. If so, they should apply for a Business Visa instead.

Key Guidelines

  • The Project Visa is issued for the duration of the project or contract, subject to a maximum of one year initially, and extendable in India.
  • Registration with FRRO/FRO is required within 14 days if visa validity exceeds 180 days.
  • The visa is non-convertible to other categories during stay in India.
  • A letter from the Indian company and the foreign employer outlining:
    • Project details
    • Duration
    • Applicant’s role and expertise
    • Salary/remuneration terms
  • Biometric data (fingerprints and facial photograph) will be collected during the application process.
  • Passport must be:
    • Valid for at least 6 months
    • In good condition with minimum 3 blank pages
  • All applications must be submitted with a prior appointment at the appropriate DU Digital Global ICAC.

Steps to Apply for an Indian Visa via DU Digital Global ICAC

  1. Create an Account.
    Register yourself on the DU Digital Global Indian Consular Application Centre (ICAC) website.

  2. Fill Out the Government of India’s Online Visa Application Form.
    Access the Online Visa Application Portal and select the REGULAR/PAPER VISA APPLICATION option.

  3. Print and Sign Your Application.
    After filling out the form online, print it and sign where required.
  4. Book Your Appointment Online.
    Visit the DU Digital Global ICAC website to schedule your appointment.
    Choose a convenient date and time for your visit.

  5. Prepare Your Documents.
    Ensure you have your passport, photographs, and all other supporting documents as listed in the Documents Checklist section.
  6. Visit the DU Digital Global ICAC.
    Go to the ICAC center as per the address mentioned in your appointment confirmation.
    Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your appointment time.
  7. Submit Your Application and Pay the Fees.
    Submit your completed application along with the applicable fees.

  8. Enroll for Biometrics.
    If required, your biometric data will be collected at the ICAC center.
  9. Application Submission Complete!
    You’ve successfully submitted your visa application.
    Optional: You can choose the Courier Service to have your passport delivered to your doorstep.
