Eligibility for Applying:
You are eligible to apply for this service if:
- Your current passport is set to expire within the next 12 months, or
- All pages in your existing passport have been used.
Important Information to Note:
- Jurisdiction: Please confirm your correct jurisdiction before applying. Make sure to apply at the appropriate Indian Consular Application Centre (ICAC). For detailed guidance, refer to the “How to Apply” or “Jurisdiction” sections.
- Address Proof: A recent copy of the meldebescheinigung (proof of address) must be submitted along with the passport application.
- Consular Surcharge: A consular surcharge of EUR 2 applies to all passport services. This must be paid along with the passport and service fees, as outlined in the “Fee Details” section.
- Processing Time: It may take up to seven weeks to process a complete passport application. Applicants will receive SMS updates at various stages of the process. To check the application status, please use the “Track Application” page.
- Tatkal Facility: The Tatkal (urgent processing) option is not available at the Indian Embassy or Consulates.
- Appointment Requirement: Applicants must have a prior appointment to visit the Indian Consular Application Centre (ICAC) for submitting their application. Entry will be allowed only at the date and time mentioned in the appointment letter. Walk-in applicants without an appointment will not be entertained.
- Fee Payment: Payments at the ICAC can be made in cash. Those using the postal service must include valid proof of payment along with all required documents, as per the checklist.
- Document Checklist: Applicants must ensure that all supporting documents listed in the “Documents Checklist” section are complete. Incomplete applications will not be accepted at the ICAC.
Note: Cancellation of Old Passport: Once the reissue application is accepted, the old passport will be cancelled by the Embassy and can no longer be used for travel.
Follow the below steps in order to apply
- Register on Du Digital Global ICAC Website:
Create your account on the Du Digital Global Indian Consular Application Centre (ICAC) portal.

Visit the Global Passport Seva Online Portal
Select your country of residence and complete the registration.
Log in using the credentials you created.
Choose the appropriate “Type of Service”
Fill in and submit the application form.
Click on “Print Application Form” to download a copy with your Application Reference Number (ARN) and details. - Book Your Appointment at ICAC:
Schedule an appointment on the Du Digital Global ICAC website by selecting a convenient date and time. Click here to book appointment - Prepare Required Documents:
Collect your passport, photographs, and all supporting documents exactly as listed in the “Documents Checklist.” - Visit the ICAC Centre:
Attend the correct ICAC center as per your jurisdiction. The address will be mentioned in your appointment letter.
⚠️ Arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled time. - Submit Application & Pay Fees:
Submit your documents and application at ICAC and deposit the applicable fees.
You can check the fee details under the “Fee Details” section. - Enroll for Biometrics (If Required):
If your service requires it, complete biometric enrollment at the center. - Application Process Completed:
Your submission is complete!
You may choose courier delivery to receive your passport at your doorstep. - Track Your Application:

Applications sent via Post or Courier are classified as “Postal Applications.” Applicants opting for this method must strictly follow the guidelines outlined below for passport services:
- Submit a completed and signed application form, along with all required documents listed in the “Documents Checklist.”
Note: Certain services may require the applicant’s physical presence at the ICAC.
- Send your application via registered mail to the appropriate Indian Consular Application Centre (ICAC) based on your jurisdiction. Ensure proper compliance with photo requirements, fee submission, and jurisdiction rules.
- You may choose to have your passport returned via courier using ICAC’s official courier services. Make sure the return address is accurate.
- Ensure that the application package is securely sealed. Any incomplete form or incorrect fee payment will result in processing delays.
- The tracking portal will display updates at every stage, including any deficiencies or incomplete submissions.
- Include only one application per package—do not combine multiple applications in a single envelope.
- Your return shipping address must match the address proof provided in your application.
How to Apply (Postal Application)
- Register on the Du Digital Global ICAC Website.
- Fill the Government of India’s Passport Application Form:
- Visit the Global Passport Seva Online Portal.
- Select your country, register, and log in.
- Choose the “Type of Service”, fill out and submit the form.
- Click “Print Application Form” to get a copy with your Application Reference Number (ARN).
- Pay the Applicable Fees (refer to the “Fee Details” section) via bank transfer to the designated account for your ICAC location:

Important: While making the payment, mention only your Postal Identifier Number / Postal Reference Number in the remarks/narration field. This helps match your payment to your postal application.
- On the printed application form, write your ARN number and Transaction ID, and attach all documents as per the checklist.
- Postal Application Label Instructions
- After submission, generate and print the Postal Application Label.
- Print on A4 or A5 paper, cut it out, and securely paste it to the front of the postal package.
- The barcode must remain visible and undamaged.
- Use a trusted courier service to send the package to the ICAC address provided on the label.
Note: Providing the ARN number and Transaction ID is mandatory. Missing these may lead to application rejection.
