Birth Certificate as per Consular Records

Indian nationals can apply for a Birth Certificate based on Consular Records when no other official birth certificate is available. This certificate is issued solely on the basis of passport details and consular records and may be required by authorities in Thailand or South Korea for several purposes, including:

  • International Travel
  • Proof of Indian Citizenship

  • School or University Registration
  • Other Official or Legal Requirements

Note: This certificate does not replace any official birth certificate previously issued by civil authorities.

  1. Typed & Signed Request Letter
    Must clearly mention the purpose of application.
  2. Copy of Indian Passport
    Self-attested photocopy of the first and last page (personal information pages).
  3. Valid Stay Permit
    Self-attested photocopy of valid Thai / South Korea Stay Permit.
  4. Proof of Current Address
    Self-attested copy of address proof in Thailand / South Korea.
  5. Proof of Fee Payment
    Applicable only if paid via bank transfer. Attach a payment receipt.
  6. Passport Size Photograph
    Bring 1 recent passport-size photo (as per photo guidelines).

Note: All documents must be self-attested by the applicant. Originals must be presented at the time of submission for verification. If any additional documents are required based on the application, the applicant have to provide the same.

  1. Does the Embassy/Consulate issue a Birth Certificate?
    Yes, the Embassy/Consulate issues a Birth Certificate in coordination with Du Digital Global ICAC. Parents of a newborn child must:
    • Register the birth immediately after birth and within one year.
    • Visit the Du Digital Global ICAC (as per jurisdiction) with a prior appointment.
    • Be physically present together at the time of application.
    • Bring original documents: Birth Certificate, Marriage Certificate, and Passports of both parents.

  1. What types of Birth Certificates does the Embassy/Consulate issue?
    The Embassy/Consulate may issue two types of birth certificates:

i) Birth Certificate for Newborn Child

    • Issued at the time of registration of a newborn. This certificate is mandatory for applying for a first-time passport.

ii) Birth Certificate Based on Consular Records

    • Issued to Indian nationals who do not possess any other birth certificate. It is based solely on passport entries and does not supersede any previously issued certificate.

Note: If the couple is not married, the father’s name can only be included if it appears on the birth certificate issued by the local authorities.

  1. How can I apply for a Birth Certificate if I already have an Indian Passport?
    You must:
    • Write a typed request letter stating the reason for the application.
    • Submit the required supporting documents at Du Digital Global ICAC.
