General Information on Entry Visa

The Entry Visa is issued to individuals of Indian origin, their spouses and children, and certain other foreign nationals visiting India for specific non-tourist purposes. This visa is not intended for employment or voluntary NGO work and is granted at the discretion of the Indian Embassy or Consulate.

Important:
Applicants must strictly follow the purpose of travel as declared in the application. Any misuse may result in visa rejection, cancellation, or legal consequences.

Who Can Apply for an Entry Visa?

You are eligible to apply under the Entry Visa category if you are:

X-1 Visa:

  • A Person of Indian Origin (not holding OCI)
  • A spouse or child of an Indian citizen / person of Indian origin / OCI cardholder

X-2 Visa:

  • Joining Auroville Foundation, Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Puducherry, or Missionaries of Charity, Kolkata
  • A foreign Buddhist monk joining a monastery or related charitable institution
  • Joining temples or religious/charitable organizations approved by the Government of India

X-Misc Visa:

  • A foreigner owning property in India (for stay purposes only, not for business)

Not Eligible:
Volunteers or individuals seeking to work with NGOs are not eligible for Entry Visa. Such applications will be rejected.

Key Guidelines

  • If the duration of stay exceeds 6 months, registration with the FRRO/FRO within 14 days of arrival is mandatory.
  • Visa validity is determined by the Embassy/Consulate and starts from the date of issue, not the intended travel date.
  • All applicants must ensure:
    • Passport validity of at least 6 months
    • At least 3 blank pages in the passport
    • No damage, tampering, or discrepancies in documentation
  • Biometric enrollment is required at the time of application.
  • All applications must be submitted at the designated DU Digital Global Indian Consular Application Centre (ICAC) with a prior appointment.
  • Visa fees are non-refundable, even if the application is rejected or modified.

Steps to Apply for an Indian Visa via DU Digital Global ICAC

  1. Create an Account.
    Register yourself on the DU Digital Global Indian Consular Application Centre (ICAC) website.

  2. Fill Out the Government of India’s Online Visa Application Form.
    Access the Online Visa Application Portal and select the REGULAR/PAPER VISA APPLICATION option.

  3. Print and Sign Your Application.
    After filling out the form online, print it and sign where required.
  4. Book Your Appointment Online.
    Visit the DU Digital Global ICAC website to schedule your appointment.
    Choose a convenient date and time for your visit.

  5. Prepare Your Documents.
    Ensure you have your passport, photographs, and all other supporting documents as listed in the Documents Checklist section.
  6. Visit the DU Digital Global ICAC.
    Go to the ICAC center as per the address mentioned in your appointment confirmation.
    Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your appointment time.
  7. Submit Your Application and Pay the Fees.
    Submit your completed application along with the applicable fees.

  8. Enroll for Biometrics.
    If required, your biometric data will be collected at the ICAC center.
  9. Application Submission Complete!
    You’ve successfully submitted your visa application.
    Optional: You can choose the Courier Service to have your passport delivered to your doorstep.

  2. Can I apply for Entry Visa if I want to volunteer at an NGO?

  3. How long is the Entry Visa valid?
    The validity is decided by the Embassy based on the applicant’s case and purpose of travel. Multiple entries may be granted depending on the situation.

  4. Can I apply as a Buddhist monk or religious worker?
    Yes. If you are joining a recognized monastery or religious institution, you may apply under the X-2 category with a valid institutional letter.

  5. Can I apply without an appointment at ICAC?
    No. All applications must be submitted at the designated ICAC by prior appointment only. Walk-ins are not accepted.
